Still living under the same roof, Moscow couple Boris and Zhenya are in the terrible final stages of a bitter divorce, marked by resentment, frustration and recriminations. Already embarking on new lives, each with a new partner, they are impatient to start again and their frequent battles pivot on the irresolvable and urgent matter of Alyosha, their 12-year-old only child, and his custody. Unbeknownst to them, Alyosha hears every word of their arguements and, feeling unloved and unwanted, disapears.
