We are delighted to welcome Côr Cymry Gogledd America to perform at Cardigan Castle on July 5th as part of its 25th anniversary tour of Wales; their first significant tour of Wales since 2002. On tour will be over 60 talented Côr Cymry choristers from over 17 American states & 3 Canadian provinces, all of whom are the descendants of Welsh immigrants, newer arrivals, expatriates, and others who feel connected to the music and community of Côr Cymry Gogledd America.

Their repertoire will include three newly commissioned works drawn from across Wales from some of our most notable contemporary composers and writers, sung in both Welsh and English, including Cefin Roberts & Einion Dafydd (North Wales), Penri Roberts & Linda Gittins (mid-Wales), and Mererid Hopwood & Eric Jones (South Wales).

Côr Cymry Gogledd America was founded in 1998 by its Artistic Director and Conductor, Dr. Mari Morgan, and made its debut in 1999 at the National Gymanfa Ganu, now called the North American Festival of Wales. Known as the “Community Choir that spans a Continent,” Côr Cymry Gogledd America’sfar-flung choristers were among the first to use the internet to help learn music and language, and to keep abreast of choir activities.

Since 1999 the choir has performed the world over, from New York to New Zealand, and has released several recordings, including Lifting the Sky, a live anniversary performance at Trinity Church, Wall Street, New York, NY.

They have performed as part of the 9/11 Remembrance Concerts (Trinity Church, Wall Street, New York and at the site of what would become the British Memorial Garden), given a Concert at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC as part of the Institution's celebration of Ireland and Wales; and have performed at the National Assembly of Wales hosted by then First Minister, Rhodri Morgan.
