JUSTIN ADAMS & MAURO DURANTE

Two master musicians from very different backgrounds come together in a powerful and intricate award-winning duo bonded by a deep fascination with ancient trance rhythms and their common role in otherwise radically different musical traditions. Guitarist, vocalist, producer and composer Justin Adams’ extraordinary career has seen him move from post-punk to old blues, Arabic and African music, and collaborations with Jah Wobble, Tinariwen and Robert Plant. Vocalist, violinist and percussionist Mauro Durante is best known as the leader of the stunning band Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino and his work with Ludovico Einaudi, and is a specialist in taranta and pizzica (the thrilling folk music of southern Italy). The duo won Songlines magazine’s Best Fusion Artist award in 2022, and their debut album Still Moving combines the Magreb, Saharan desert and delta blues with Mediterranean melody, the taranta of Puglia and rocking soul.

A thrilling, spontaneous affair, switching between the laments and love songs of southern Italy and the gritty blues of North Africa and North America. Adams is an astonishing player...a bravura performance
THE OBSERVER
Adams’s guitar burns like a torch in the dead of night. Mauro’s singing channels ancestral voices. Thoroughly unpredictable and profoundly meditative
THE TIMES
Ancient frame drum and the soaring fiddle of Mauro Durante….mesh mesmerically with the raw, gutsy playing and occasional singing of Adams ..to conjure hypnotic beauty
