Gagarine (12A)

Fanny Liatard, Jérémy Trouilh | France | 2020 | 98’

A deeply romantic urban fantasy, Gagarine marks a beguiling debut from directors Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh. Built in the 1960s and named after Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the Gagarine housing estate in Paris has been earmarked for demolition. Teenager Yuri (Alseni Bathily) does everything he can to maintain the building. Encouraged by neighbour Diana (Lyna Khoudri) he uses his passion for space travel to devise ingenious ways of avoiding the inevitable and escaping his earthly cares. A joyful celebration of community, love and shooting for the stars.
