Talking About Trees (PG)

Suhaib Gasmelbari | France, Sudan, Chad, Germany, Qatar, UAE | 2019 | 93’

Ibrahim, Manar, Suleiman and Altayeb, four veteran members of the Sudanese Film Club, embark on a journey in which they aim to revive and old cinema to bring cinemagoing culture back to their country in the face of decades of Islamist censorship and inefficient bureaucracy. In the crisis-ridden country, the four friends encounter insurmountable resistance. They recall their times of exile and dream of a Sudan in which art and intellectual thought can be free. ‘We are smarter than them, but not as strong’, is the conclusion.
